New Chairman for Tunbridge Wells Lib Dems10.47.29am GMT Sun 20th Jan 2008
Tunbridge Wells Lib Dems started 2008 with the election of a new chairman, Tom Symondson. 25-year old Tom said, "I am delighted to become the new Chair. It is a challenging job, but I aim to bring fresh ideas to the role. Locally, our party has come a long way in the last few years but we still have a very long way to go." Tom was elected as a councillor for Pembury when just 22 years old, and has since worked for Kent County Council and the London Borough Southwark, where has gained an excellent understanding of the workings of local government. Outgoing chairman Dr Alan Bullion said, "Tom brings youth, enthusiasm and local government experience to the post. As we have a new young leader in Nick Clegg at national level, this is a very good time for renewal. I wish him every success." Alan has stepped down after two years as Chair to concentrate on his position as Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Sevenoaks, where he aims to beat Conservative MP Michael Fallon.
